Pau d'arco (Tabebuia avellanedae) is a tree growing in South America whose inner bark Lapacho has been used to treat a wide range of diseases for centuries.
Researchers have identified two active chemical compounds in Pau d'arco. These chemical compounds are called naphthoquinones: lapachol and beta-lapachone. These compounds have the power to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.
