How does a cavesson work
A cavesson acts directly on the horse's nasal bridge that are directly connected to the neck which makse the cavesson very effective to bend the neck of the horse. The neck is connected to the back and vertebrae right to the base of the tail. That make the cavesson a accurate and effective tool to obtain correct bending throughout the horse's body. With a snaffle or sidepull there is a risk that only the horse's neck is bent sideways.
The cavesson is a sharp tool depending on how it is manufactured, a fixed iron or a chain is sharper than a cavesson where the nosepart is only made in leather. For a iron and a chain the sharpness is determined buy the thickness and how much the iron / chain is lined. That does not mean that a cavesson with a lot of padding is automatically better. If the cavesson is sharper it becomes more accurate and precise, and we want the horse to understand us as quickly and clear as possible. It fits best on a bridle with a bit but if you only want lunge or work without a bit a cavesson with a crown piece is smoother. Many riders start with a cavesson with a crown piece and if you later complement with a riding cavesson.
